Welcome Children and Families!

Our children's library and services are designed for children from birth to age twelve and their caregivers. The Jennifer Adham Memorial Children's Library is located on the lower level of the library and houses our juvenile borrowing collections, juvenile reference materials, Community Meeting Room, and restrooms. Beyond our programs and collections, we also offer services for families including book bundles, library instruction, book recommendations, and more.

Summer Reading 2024: Adventure Begins at the Library!

Summer is a busy time at the library, and we have something for everyone! All ages are invited to join in our summer reading challenges and try out our programs. See details below for all the things coming soon at the library! Most programs are drop-in, but those marked with an "*" require registration.

Summer Reading Challenges

All ages are invited to join our summer reading challenges from birth-99+ ! We have several age groups with different levels of difficulty to reflect your child's needs and interests. Register here! or stop by the library. Challenge papers can be printed from this link or can be picked up at the library. Early Registration opens June 1st, but no prizes will be awarded until after June 10th. All prizes must be claimed by August 10th!

Storytimes

We offer four weekly storytimes at ZAPL. These are drop-in programs, so attend whenever is convenient for you!

Baby Toddler Lapsit Storytime, designed for ages 0-2. Tuesdays at 10:30am

Toddler Tales Storytime, designed for ages 18months-3. Wednesdays at 10:15am & 10:45am

Preschool Pals Storytime, designed for ages 3-5. Thursdays at 10:30am

LEGO Club

Kids in grades K-6 are invited to join us for LEGO Club! This drop-in program meets weekly. We start each session with a new building challenge and finish with free-build time.

Wacky Wednesday STEAM Programs

Kids in grades K-6 are invited to explore the wacky world of STEAM this summer! Each week during summer reading we will have a new activity. This drop-in program will be exploring science, technology, engineering, art, and math with hands-on learning.

Page-to-Screen Book Club/Movie Nights

Each month this summer we will be exploring one picture book and one chapter book that have been turned into a movie! The picture books we will read before watching, please read the chapter book ahead of time if you would like to participate in the discussion. You are welcome to simply come and enjoy the film! Discussions comparing and contrasting the formats will happen after the screening. No registration needed, just drop in!

Butler County Humane Society Animal Presentation- June 20th*

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

The Butler County Human Society is coming to visit the library! They will share a talk on animal education and help us learn about animal rescue and care. An animal ambassador from their facility may make an appearance as well. Open to all ages, but designed for kids entering grades K-3. This program will start at 3:00pm.

Butler County Humane Society Facility Tour- July 10th*

REGISTRATION REQUIRED- LIMITED SPACE

The Butler County Humane Society will welcome a small group from the library for a private tour of their facility in Renfrew, PA! All ages are welcome, but keep in mind this is a walking tour with a limit of 10 participants and all participants must sign a waiver to enter the facility with the animals. The tour will start at 4:30pm at 1015 Evans City Rd, Renfrew, PA 16053.

Magic Tree House Mania- July 25*

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Let's dive into the world of Jack and Annie with some Magic Tree House themed adventures! We will take over the library with stations inspired by the adventures in the book series. We will play games, make crafts, and more! Registration required. Designed for ages 5-10, all ages welcome. Monday, July 25th starting at 5:30pm.

Zoomobile @Zelienople Community Park- August 2nd*

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

The Pittsburgh Zoo will be coming to us! Sign up to see the animal ambassadors and learn about these unique creatures. This program will be in the Ayres Amphitheater in the Zelienople Community Park, Shelter 2 will be used in the event of rain.

School-aged Programs

For children in grades K-6, we offer LEGO Club on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30, and Wacky Wednesday STEM programs on Wednesday afternoons at 4:30. Building challenges and topics of exploration vary week to week. Follow our social media to stay up-to-date with the current topics!

Adaptive Access

At the Library we are continually seeking new ways to make our collections and services more easily accessible to all members of our community. In the Children's Library, we are proud to offer:
