Fiber Art Display

This month’s artwork display in the Teen Tomorrow Room is felted fiber art by Catherine of Rod and Needle.  Catherine received her BFA in art and BA in dance with an art history minor from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, and it was here that she was really introduced to fiber arts. She creates sculptural fiber pieces that have been described as masculine. This is a delightful juxtaposition considering her medium is soft and light. Catherine’s pieces are often aquatic beings, and her material is wool top or roving. Creatures often perceived as slimy or scaly come to life with her felting needle and dyed wool and invite the viewer to get close to animals many may not ever see unless they fish. As an artist, Catherine is fascinated by the color, the pattern, and the lines that various forms of wildlife naturally have. Using the medium of wool, she needle felt creatures to life, adding layer upon layer of fiber to create these soft sculptures. Pieces are available to be sold.  Find out more at
